Dan Murphy is a jazz pianist from the Akron/Cleveland area who leads his own trio and quartet and is constantly performing with many top local artists including: vocalists Helen Welch and Barbara Knight, saxophonists Bobby Selvaggio and Ernie Krivda, trumpeter Jack Schantz, and trombonists Paul Ferguson and Chas Baker. Dan recently backed-up such names as Kevin Mahogany, Slide Hampton, Jiggs Whigham, Ali Ryerson, Alan Vizzutti, Paquito D’Rivera, Phil Palombi, Carla Cook, Steve Hobbs, Lance Bryant, and accompanied drummer John Riley for the Ohio Day of Percussion clinic. Dan, drummer Matt Perko, and bassist Kip Reed are featured on Bobby Selvaggio's quartet CD entitled Visions and Transitions. Dan is also on singer Helen Welch's CD entitled One Dream. Dan has performed with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and has toured extensively in the U.S. and Japan with the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra. Dan has also written arrangements and recorded with the GMO. He was selected to perform with the Disney Collegiate All-Star Band both in Orlando, FL (1999) and in Anaheim, CA (2000). He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies from the University of Akron, and has worked as a pianist for Princess Cruises. Dan is currently performing and composing in the Northeastern Ohio region. He has a Master’s Degree in Jazz Studies from Youngstown State University where he teaches part-time.
